Lichen Taxa held in MSC

This list includes all lichen taxa accessioned into the Michigan State University Herbarium (c. 4000), except for exsiccatae! A separate list includes all type material held in the herbarium.  All lichen material at MSC is available for loan to researchers at recognized insitutions. Please address requests to the Director.

Nomenclature is based on the on-line version of "A cumulative checklist for the lichen-forming, lichenicolous and allied fungi of the continental United States and Canada (Esslinger, T. L. 1997. Most Recent Update: 2 March 2004). For taxa not recorded from North America, the appropriate national, on-line checklist from the "Checklists of Lichens" web-site (Feuerer, T. (ed.) 2005) is followed.  If you are unable to find the taxon for which you are looking, these lists should be checked for possible synonyms.

Names in italics: I have been unable to find these names in any current checklist.  Some are herbarium names used by Dr Imshaug, but never published (these have "Imsh.", "comb. nov.", "sp. nov." etc. in the 'Notes' column). Any suggestions as to the validity of  the other names, or the current names for the taxa they represent, will be welcomed, as will any other comments or corrections. e-mail correction.

Numbers in the "sp." row indicate the number of undetermined collections of a genus from that geographical area.
