Description
Thallus: black, subgelatenous; surface hyphae blue (N+ red) in section.
Photobiont: Trentepohlia; cells sphearical, large, 25-30 Ám diam., identical to those in Hymenelia/Ionaspis spp.
Apothecia: 0.2-0.3 mm diam., with thick thalline margin
Thecium: I+ blue; epihymenium aeruginose (N+ red); paraphyses simple, not capitate, lax in K
Hypothecium: brown
Asci: cylindrical-clavate, wall I+ blue, tholus I-
Ascospores: not seen
Conidia: bacilliform, 4-5 x 1 Ám

Ecology and distribution. On siliceous rocks. Known from a single collection from the Falkland Islands (summit of Mt Adam).
