Description
Thallus: orange, widespreading, cracked-areolate, areoles angular 0.5-0.7 mm across, thin 0.3-0.4 mm thick, thin black prothallus present at margin, medulla I+ mauve. Photobiont chlorococcoid, cells globose, thick-walled, 12-15 m diam.
Apothecia: black, immersed, 0.3-0.4 mm diam, with thick black pseudomargin 0.1-0.15 mm across, disc concave. Hymenium: hyaline, 100-130 m thick, I+ blue, epihymenium 30-40 m thick, pale orange brown (K+ paler), with darker patches towards exciple. Hypothecium: hyaline, 70-80 m thick of vertically arranged hyphae. Paraphyses slender 1.5-2.0 m thick, branched and anastomosing, scarcely swelling at the apex (to 3.0 m), without pigmented cap. Asci: cylindrical, 85-100 x 20-25 m, Lecidea-type. Ascospores: hyaline, simple with a well developed plasma bridge, 12-15 x 7.5-8.5 m. Exciple: cupular, thin, dark brown , composed of vertical, cellular hyphae 3.5-5.0 m wide, cells 5.0-8.5 m long.
Conidiomata: not seen.

Chemistry: K, C, KC, Pd, UV+ whitish. No substances by TLC.

Distribution: Seven collections from the Auckland Islands, one from Campbell Island.

Notes: apparently close to L. lygomma
